Marlene June Kidd, 85, of Pilot, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017. She was a gentle, humorous and devoted wife, friend and mother.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lydia (Babbert) Fritz of Columbus, Ohio, and her son Gregory.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Norman Kidd; son, Jeff, and wife, Vera Kidd; daughter, Sherree and husband, John Surface; daughter, Melinda Strager; and daughter-in-law Betsy Kidd of Radford.

Greatly beloved grandchildren include Carrie Surface of Miami, Florida, Lori Surface, Sean Surface, and Emilyn Kidd, all from Blacksburg, and Chelsey Sutton Otey of Roanoke.

Special love and gratitude to those who helped care for her at home during her final months. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at the McCoy Funeral Home. The service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in Blacksburg, with Reverend John Hopkins officiating.

Interment followed in Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 858, Riner, VA, 24149. Online condolences may be made at www.mccoyfuneralhome.com.
