Lowell Elmer Bower of Elliston was born on June 16, 1946 and departed this life peacefully at his home gaining his heavenly reward on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at the age of 70.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Josiah and Lucille Huffman Bower.
He was born in his family home in Montgomery County and spent his entire life farming the land including dairy farming beginning from a young age and beef farming up until his death.
He drove a school bus for Montgomery County Schools for many years. He was renowned for his love for farming, his family, the countryside, and John Deere tractors. He had a tender heart and was a man of great integrity. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren – New Conference serving the Lord all of his adult life.
He leaves a legacy that will be remembered forever throughout the Eastern Montgomery community. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Betty Martin Bower; children, Patrick Bower and wife Lisa, Jeffrey Bower and wife Wendy, Paige Bower, Leanna Bower; grandchildren, Jordan Bower and wife Ashley, Haden Bower and wife Kourtney, Cody Bower, Levi and Allison Bower; great-grandsons, Josiah and Jedidiah Bower; and sister, Eileen Edwards and husband Barry. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Along with his family, he leaves behind many friends and a wonderful community. The family would like to express their thanks to all who have sent condolences and visited with Lowell in his last days. Special thanks to Dr. William Fintel of Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Good Samaritan Hospice of New River Valley and nurses Aislynn and Kim. We thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and stand on Psalm 29:11 for our Strength and Peace believing Lowell is mowing those fields of golden hay. Above all, we Give God all the Glory!
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Peters Creek Cemetery.
