The New River Valley Home Builders Association will be presenting the “Cook Your Heart Out” competition at noon March 11 during the Home Expo at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. The Home Expo runs March 10-12.
Three local non-profit teams, Micah’s Backpack, Plenty! and United Way, were chosen to participate this year. They will create and prepare their own unique dishes for the three competition rounds using a combination of two secret ingredients. Judging will be based on three different categories: appearance, creativity and taste.
The teams will be trying to impress a panel of local celebrity judges as well as some lucky Home Expo attendees with their culinary delights. To participate in the People’s Choice Vote, make sure to arrive at the judging times below to taste samples. Votes are counted in the form of donations to the teams.
The appetizer course will be judged at 1:30 p.m., the main course will be judged at 3:30 p.m. and the dessert course will be judged at 5:15 p.m.
The cooking competition coordinator, Jackie Gardner of Ferguson, said, “May the best dish win!”
Only one of these three local non-profit organizations will walk away with the $1,000 grand prize.
