Raymond I. Dean, 81, of Radford, passed into Heaven on Saturday, March 4, 2017 unexpectedly.

Raymond was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked at the Lynchburg Foundry for 29 years. He later opened Dean’s Gun Shop in Radford in 1986, which he and son Chris operated for 20 years.

At age 70, Raymond retired and closed the Gun Shop. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well as walking and dining out with his sons. Over the years, Raymond made many great friends through the Gun Shop and fishing experiences. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him as a father and friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Dean; his parents, Glen and Margaret Dean; and brother, Verlin Dean.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Tim Dean, Steve and Brenda Dean and Chris Dean and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Hamilton, all of Radford; grandchildren, Tyler Dean and Faith Dean, both of Radford; great granddaughter, Mia Dean; brother, Damon Dean of Dublin; sister, Ruby Downing of Chesapeake; special friend, Glenna Reedy of Tazewell; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Mullins Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Walker officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

The Dean family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Virginia.
