Radford Tame the Beast

  • The Bobcat Trail Run, Tame the Beast 2017, will be held Saturday, March 25 at Belle Heth Elementary School. A 3-mile and 6-mile event is scheduled along with a fun run and walk, beginning at 9 a.m.
  • Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers in each event. Fees are $15 for the fun run, $30 for the 3M and $35 for the 6-mile.
  • All proceeds will benefit the Radford High School cross country program. Register by March 20 to be guaranteed a race t-shirt.
  • Packets will be available for pick up on the day of the race, starting at 8 a.m.

Hell Climb 10K

  • The Hell Climb 10 K is a 6.5-mile climb from the base of Mountain Lake in Giles County and will be held Saturday, April 1. Fees are $40, and packet pickup will be at the Mountain Lake Lodge Barn, starting at 6:45 a.m. Timing chips will be handed out at that time.
  • Racers will ascend more than 1,800 feet as they follow Mountain Lake Road.
  • T-shirts will be provided to all participants.
  • Registration is $40 and can be found at runsignup.com/Race/VA/Pembroke/HellClimb.

Highlander Half-Marathon

  • Radford University’s Athletics Department and Athletic Foundation is hosting a half-marathon, 8K and kid’s fun run on Saturday, April 29. Price is $80 for the half, $50 for the 8K and $10 for the fun run.
  • The half and 8K begin at 8 a.m. The race course transverses the university campus and adjacent neighborhoods.

Mountains of Misery

  • The 20th annual Mountains of Misery Challenge will be held Sunday, May 28 at 7 a.m. in Newport.
  • The Challenge is a 104 miles with 10,000’ of climbing, while the Double Metric Century is 125 miles with 13,000’ of climbing.
  • The first wave will start at 7 a.m. with a total of six waves with approximately 100 riders per wave.
  • Riders that finish the entire course will receive coveted long-sleeve finisher t-shirts.
  • A post-race meal will be catered by Mountain Lake restaurant. Fees for both Century and Double Metrics is $85.
