Roger Turpin, age 76, of Christiansburg, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at English Meadows. He was born in Pulaski County on June 5, 1940 to the late Roy and Alice Turpin.


He is also preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Niece; brothers, Alton Turpin and Meryle Turpin; two sons, Michael Allen Turpin and Calvin Darnell Turpin; and sister-in-law, Margaret Turpin.

He was a longtime employee at Angles Grocery and Wades Supermarket.

Roger was a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Ann “Suger” Turpin, of Christiansburg; daughter, Debra “Lil Day” Smith and husband, Stoney, of Christiansburg; son, Gordon Kerry Turpin, of Christiansburg; two grandsons, Austin Smith, of Christiansburg, and Kyle Turpin, of South Carolina; great-grandson, Tristan Smith; special brother, Wendell Turpin, of Montgomery County; brother, Barry Turpin, of Christiansburg; sister, Donna Turpin, of Pulaski County; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Janice Simpkins; sister-in-law, Opie Cox, of Pennsylvania; nephews, Anthony Turpin and Timmy Turpin; two special friends of the family, Kathy Whitaker and Jane Smith; and best friends, Don and Louise Sumner.

The family gives a special “thank you” to the hospice staff and Jennie Ayers and thanks English Meadows for their care at the end. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 14 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Graham officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.
