Blacksburg atop of Wells Fargo Cup after winter season

Radford second in 1A, Auburn third


George Wythe-Wytheville, Maggie Walker, Blacksburg, Jamestown, Princess Anne, and Oakton sit atop of the Group standings following the winter sports season.

Blacksburg (3A) is the only leader from the fall season still holding the top spot in their Group standings. Blacksburg continued its season-long dominance with an impressive winter, while Maggie Walker is looking to win a fourth straight Cup and Oakton (6A) is aiming for a third Cup in five years.

Jamestown (4A) is a previous Cup winner, while George Wythe (1) and Princess Anne (5A) are hoping to hoist its first Cup.

In Group 1A, GW has 217.5 total points to second place Radford at 197.5. Auburn is third with 170 points.

Blacksburg has 405 points to distant itself in 3A with second place Tabb with 292.5 points. Christiansburg is 10th with 110 points.

First awarded in 1990, the Wells Fargo Cup goes to the school in each group classification that has achieved the best overall record in VHSL state-level competition in 27 sports – the state champions’ state champion.

Cups are presented for athletic and academic activities to the top school in each of the League’s enrollment groups.

The winner of the Wells Fargo Cup is determined by a point system based on performance in state championship events. Points are awarded for all sanctioned sports in the following manner.
