Charles Edward Dove, Sr., age 67, of Blacksburg went to be with the Lord and his son, Michael, Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery.
He was born in Montgomery County on July 7, 1949 to the late Frank Jackson, Jr. and Juanita Kent Dove. He was also preceded in death by a son Michael Lee Dove and a brother, Paul Jackson Dove. Since Charlie’s accident in November, he struggled recovering until the end.
Charles was a longtime member of the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church and worked for 30 years at Volvo. He was a friend to all he met and kids of any age loved him. Before Charles would leave anybody’s house he’d always tell them “now, you call me if you need anything,” and Charles absolutely meant that.
He would be the first to help anyone to build something, if they had some problems with their vehicle he would work on it. He would even stop and help people broke down along the road. He was never too busy to help someone.
Above all though, Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who was always there for family. Charles was loved by all who knew him and we were all blessed to have had him in our lives. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in Lewis GaleHospital-Montgomery ICU for their prayers, compassion and excellent care of Charles.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie S. Dove; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Cassandra Dove; his pride and joy, Michaela, his only granddaughter who made his home happy; mother-in-law, Mescal Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Janice Marie and Leonard “Len” Bieber; sister-in-law, Jeanine Maxwell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Janice Smith; aunt, Bessie Kitts; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church, 1406 Giles Road in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home at 150 Country Club Drive S.W. in Blacksburg.
