Mitchell Vance Lawson, age 65, of Blacksburg died, Friday, March 17, 2017, at Heritage Hall Health Care.


He was born in Montgomery County on Nov. 7, 1951 to the late Frederick J. and Elindor Marie Linkous Lawson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Milton and Ronnie.

He served with his brothers Charles and Ronnie in the U.S. Army. He loved his work as a local truck driver. He loved Chevrolets and racing.

He is survived by his sons, Stephen Andrew Lawson and his mother, Brenda Helvey, Brandon Lee Dowdy and Christopher Mitchell Dowdy; daughter, Catherine Annette Dowdy; grandchildren, Steven, Kirklin, Breanna, Preston, Levi, Kayla and Laykin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ora Jean and Charles White of Radford, and Joyce Ann and Larry Slusser of Blacksburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Glen and Carol Lawson of Dublin, and Timothy Evan and Angie Lawson of Blacksburg.

A graveside service was conducted March 21 at 11 a.m. in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. The family would like to give a special “thank you” to the nursing staff at Heritage Hall Healthcare.
