Auburn’s King to attend Bluefield College

Auburn’s Carlee King makes a snag of an opponent’s fly ball in a recent game in Riner. She plans to continue her collegiate career at Bluefield State.

This fall, a standout softball player from Auburn High School will take her talents to Bluefield College. Carlee King announced her decision Monday.

The small school feel helped her in making the decision.

“Coming from Auburn, I wanted to go to a small school since that’s what I’m used to. Bluefield was very small and welcoming, and the people I met were very friendly. When I first went to visit for open house, they opened in a prayer and I felt at home. I also only considered colleges that offered missionary studies or tracks,” she said.

The three-year starter at Auburn is not sure what position she will play at Bluefield.

“I’m not 100% sure yet. I mainly play third and left field. For Coach Hurd (at Auburn), I would sometimes be used as a utility player. Wherever Bluefield needs me, I will happy to play,” she said.

King hopes to major in secondary education at Bluefield with her long-term goal of being a middle school English teacher. She would also like to do some missionary work.

“Ever since I was in the first grade, I wanted to be a missionary. I would love to travel the world spreading God’s word,” she said.

Her grades are A’s and B’s and despite a demanding softball schedule, King is also busy taking DE classes.

In her spare time, she also likes to spend time with my family and friends. She attends Auburn Baptist Church and enjoys the church’s youth group activities.

Her parents are Stacy and Donnie Tawney of Riner.
