RSVP scholarship deadline April 21

Applications for scholarships given by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford are due by April 21. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students in the Montgomery County and City of Radford school systems who plan to pursue studies in a human services or human medical field.

For applications or more information, students should visit RSVP’s website at www.montgomerycountyva.gov/rsvp, ask their high school guidance counselors, or contact RSVP at hayesaw@montgomerycountyva.gov.

Racial injustice workshop to be held April 22

This workshop—in collaboration with the Employment/Income Gap Issue Group of the Dialogue on Race—will address racial disparities in employment opportunities nationally and in Montgomery County. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

Friends of the Library Joint Regional Annual Meeting April 23 Beginning at 3 p.m. at the Christiansburg Library, David Cline will discuss his new book, “From Reconciliation to Revolution.” Books will be available for purchase and autographing.For more information contact Linda Spivey at 540 382-6969, ext. 221.

Blacksburg Library to hold boating safety course May 13

Blacksburg Library will be hosting a state boating safety course from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. May 13.

Beginning July 1, 2016, all PWC operators age 14 and older and all motorboat operators regardless of age need to take a boating safety course. No person under the age of 14 may operate a PWC.

Instruction and materials are free of charge. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a pencil, a highlighter and lunch.

Registration is required and may be completed by contacting Mendy Harman at mendy.harman@dgif.virginia.gov.

Christiansburg HS Class of 1967 hosts 50th Reunion Aug. 19

Christiansburg High School’s Class of 1967 recently announced it will be holding its 50th Class Reunion at The Farmhouse Restaurant at 6 p.m. Aug. 19.
