Broome, Edward Harris

Edward (Eddie) Harris Broome, age 80, of Christiansburg died, Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his home.


He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on Sept. 8, 1936. He is preceded in death by his father, Harris Q. Broome; mother, Ethel M. Snead Broome Porter; step-father, Edwin R. Porter; sister, Joyce Mills and husband, Stafford W. Mills.

He was the owner and operator of “The Flower Box” in Blacksburg for 25 years and spent a total of 45 years as a floral designer. He was a past member of the Blacksburg Jaycee, former treasurer of the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Blacksburg Breakfast Lions Club. He was an artist in many areas such as wood carving; making duck decoys, walking sticks, and many other items. He loved to paint pictures of nature.

Eddie also wrote a column for the local news paper. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of Virginia Tech football, and was a Hokie Club member for 40 years. He loved fishing and golfing, reading, and traveling extensively with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Emilie D. Broome; sons and daughter-in-law, Rick and Nancy Broome, Randy Broome; grandchildren, Lauren and husband, Chase Coble, Lucas Q. Broome, Kassidy and Mitchell Broome; great-granddaughter, Cecilia Coble; special nieces, Sharyn Borkowski and husband, Joe, Melissa Bolen and husband, Brett; and nephew, Stafford Mills.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice of Christiansburg and all the doctors and their staffs that helped during his illness. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel (150 Country Club Drive SW Blacksburg)  with the Rev. John Altizer officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.
