Arbor Day event Saturday

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the park at 3401 South Point Drive in Blacksburg. Bring a shovel and a friend! For more information, call 443-1100.


Shred-A-Thon Saturday

The Shred-A-Thon will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 615 Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg. No businesses please. For more information, call 443-1212.


NAACP hosts general body meeting Sunday

The Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County NAACP General Body meeting will be held at Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church, 570 High St. in Christiansburg. The meeting will begin at 3:30pm.

Our CREDO speaker will be Danielle Jeffers, an undergraduate at Virginia Tech who founded “Dough 4 Degrees.” She teaches students how to earn scholarship money enabling them to graduate with less debt.

All are welcome.


Blacksburg United Methodist Church hosts film screening Thursday

Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s monthly Faith & Film series continues on April 27, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Central Conference Room, 111 Church St. in Blacksburg. The film will be “The Wisdom to Survive,” which examines the challenges that climate change poses and discusses meaningful action that can be taken by individuals and communities.

Screenings are free and open to all. Refreshments will be served. Deacon Leigh Anne Taylor will lead the discussions. For more information, or a schedule of the entire series, contact Jennifer Cooper at cooperjp91@gmail.com or 381-5854.


Eastmont Garden Day and Tractor Show May 6

On May 6, 2017 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. the Meadowbrook Library and the Eastmont Garden Club will sponsor the annual Garden Day and Tractor Show. There will be perennials and vegetable plants for sale, music, food, Farmers Market, Tractor/Lawn mower show and much more. Prizes will be awarded for the Tractor show.
