The Christiansburg Police Department, Christiansburg Recreation Department and Christiansburg/Montgomery Triad SALT Council are now accepting applications for the 2017 Senior Citizens Police Academy.

The academy, which will be held July 17-21, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., is free and open to any citizen 50 years and older.

During the five-day course, participants will tour the Christiansburg Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, learn about the drug task force and vice units, meet the K-9 units, visit the firing range, hear from a variety of speakers and learn about self- defense, internet crimes against children, radar and DUIs, investigations and evidence collection.

Applications can be picked up at Christiansburg Recreation Center. If you would like to have an application mailed to you or for more information, please contact Tammy Caldwell at 382- 2349, ext. 2003 or email: tcaldwell@christiansburg.org.

All applications are subject for review and approval. Participants will undergo a background check.
