James William “Jimmy” Carden, 69, of Montgomery County, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Jimmy was born on September 1, 1947 in Radford and was the son of the late Edna Irene and James Edgar Carden.


He was a master electrician for the most of his life. Jimmy also pastored two churches, one of them being New Hope Church of God in Christiansburg. He was a kind father, a caring grandfather, and a great husband.

He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Jimmy is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Donna M. Carden; two children, Melissa R. Carden (Anthony Albert), Donald W. Carden (Carolyn); seven grandchildren, Kristi N. Carden, Renay B. Albert, Peyton J. Albert, Pat J. Carden, Liam W. Carden, Zach D. Carden, Cadey S. Carden; one sister, Margaret J. Horton; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Martin and Richard Martin (Regina); one special nephew, Andy Smith, along with many other nephews and one niece.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Carden; one brother-in-law, Jack Horton; and one nephew, Chris O’Neil.

The family received friends at DeVilbiss Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Funeral services were held Friday, May 19, 2017 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel in Radford, Va. with the Reverends Andrew Dean and Mary Morris officiating.

Interment followed at West View Cemetery in Radford. DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford is in charge of arrangements.
