Photos by Jon Fleming After two days of competition at Harrisonburg High School, the Blacksburg girls were the 3A state outdoor track and field champions.
Blacksburg’s Cole Beck wrapped up his day at the 3A state track meet with a win in the 200 m dash final. Beck was also the 100 m state champion, and anchored the state champion 4×100 relay team.
Christiansburg’s Julia Moschella placed 5th in the 800 and 4th in the 400 m events at the 3A state championship meet in Harrisonburg.
Blacksburg’s Kaitlynn Wolfe (5) and Ailene Edwards (2) placed 3rd and 4th in the 800 m state championship race. The two teammates were also members of the state champion 4×800 m relay for the Bruins.
Christiansburg freshman Kendall Lewis qualifed for the 100 m hurdle final, and placed 8th overall at the 3A state championhip meet.
Blacksburg’s Sid Nathella leads a group of runners, including Christiansburg’s Alex Watty in the opening lap of the 4×800 relay on Friday night at Harrisonburg High School. The Bruins would win the state championship in a time of 8:04.97, with Christiansburg finishing 5th (8:18.89).
Ethan Mills runs the anchor leg for the Blue Demon 4×800 team, helping them to a 5th place finish on Friday night. On Saturday, Mills would run to a 3rd place in the 800 m championship (1:58.88).
Blacksburg’s Ben Fleming and Christiansburg’s Tyler Kuchan went 1-2 in the 3200 m state championship.
