Former Floyd County High School standout and current Virginia Tech golfer, Amanda Hollandsworth, took the VSGAWS championship at Blacksburg Country Club.

Amanda Hollandsworth finished with a three-round total of 1-over 217 and won the 2017 Virginia State Golf Association’s Women’s Stroke Play Championship on Wednesday. The three-day event was played at the Blacksburg Country Club in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Hollandsworth, a rising junior at Virginia Tech from Floyd, shot a final-round 4-under 68 to defeat Elsa Diaz of the University of Richmond by one stroke and Radford grad Alexandra Austin by two strokes. The 68 was the lowest round of the day and tied for the lowest round of the tournament.

A two-time winner of the VSGA Junior Girls’ Championship, Hollandsworth has been near the top of the leaderboard at VSGA women’s majors for the last several years. Last year, not only was she the stroke play runner-up, but she was the finalist in the VSGA Amateur as well.

Four other Hokies finished in the top 25: Whitney Stevenson, a recent graduate from Canton, Georgia (5th place), Sarah Spicer, a rising sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina (11th place), Katie Muscatello, a rising sophomore from Blacksburg (tied for 14th place) and Kristin Hearp, a rising sophomore from Salem, Virginia, (24th place).
