Charlotte Olive Eugenia “Gene” Whitlock Hart, 94, of Richmond,Virginia, departed this life to her heavenly home, July 12, 2017.
Gene resided at the Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center. She was born in 1922 in Rogers, Va., to Bernard and Kate Whitlock. Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James F. Hart, and by her brothers, Harry, Charles, Walter Jr. “B” and Max; and sisters, Arlene, Louise, and Doris.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marydel and King Rives; and her granddaughter, Channing; son, Mark Hart; sisters, Nancy Lindquist (David) and Helen Meredith; and many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. After high school, Gene enrolled at the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond. Gene volunteered to serve her country and entered the Armed Forces Nursing Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center for the wonderful care Gene received the last nine years of her life.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road Richmond, Va. 23229. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church Community Nurse Outreach Program.
