Vandivort, Harold Warren

Harold Warren Vandivort of Blacksburg passed away at the Radford Nursing facility after a short stay. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Canterbury of Ohio, Betty Smerker of California; and brother, Paul Vandivort of California. He is survived by a brother, James Vandivort of Wyoming.


Harold was born on August 13, 1934 in Crab Orchard, West Virginia to the late Warren and Clercy Vandivort. He grew up in Crab Orchard and went to elementary school there. He attended Woodrow Wilson Junior and High School in Beckley, West Virginia where he graduated in 1952. He also attended Vocational School for four years while at school in Beckley.

Harold is survived by his loving wife, Gerry; and daughter, Tamara. Harold met the girl of his dreams in 1956 in Midway, West Virginia. He took one look at her and knew she was the special one for him. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage for over 59 years. Harold loved his family and was a devoted husband and father to them. His world centered around them and he loved spending time with them.

Harold was a Godly man who loved the Lord. He studied his Bible daily. He loved the Lord’s church and was faithful to it. He never missed an opportunity to witness to others.

Harold enjoyed traveling all across the United States. He enjoyed motorcycling and took many trips with his friends. He enjoyed mowing his fields on his John Deere tractor. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Virginia Tech after 34 years.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m., Monday at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW Blacksburg. Graveside services will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Dublin officiated by Rev. Shake Smith and Mr. Jerry Dowdy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Drive, NW Christiansburg, VA 24073.
