Steppin’ Out 2017

The Blacksburg Steppin’ Out Festival will be displaying the LGBTQ “LOVE” sign to promote tourism.

Giant artwork will be displayed Aug. 3-7 to promote visitation to Downtown, Blacksburg, the Alexander Black House and the Steppin’ Out Festival.

Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. will bring an oversized LGBT LOVE artwork to the Alexander Black House Lawn, 204 Draper Rd. on Thursday as part of a state and local partnership to promote tourism. The artwork, which is 16 feet long and more than six feet high, is part of the Virginia is for Lovers campaign and designed to promote family-friendly vacation experiences in Virginia. Visitors can come see the LOVE when it arrives August 3 and will be on display at The Alexander Black House, 204 Draper Rd. through Aug.7.

Visitors are encouraged to take a picture in front of the artwork and share it on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers or on Instagram and Twitter, using the special hashtag #LOVEVA.

2017 celebrates the 37th annual Steppin’ Out festival. Steppin’ Out features over 200 artists and crafts people from around the United States selling unique handcrafted items – jewelry, pottery, textiles, metal work, basketry, stained & fused glass, yard art, fine art, furniture, toys, artisan foods and so much more!

Downtown Blacksburg merchants also hold their much-awaited final clearance sidewalk sales during Steppin’ Out. Those festival foods you love are provided by downtown restaurants.

Listen to over 25 excellent musical acts all afternoon Friday and Saturday, and well into the evening. Steppin’ Out is Southwest Virginia’s premier street celebration.

“Our iconic Virginia is for Lovers brand is about love – pure and simple, and has been for more than 45 years,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “We are excited to share the LOVE at locations throughout the Commonwealth where so many people can enjoy being a part of it. It reminds us that Virginia is an ideal destination for families looking to completely connect on a Virginia vacation.”

All are welcome in Blacksburg so come down to Steppin’ Out and visit the LOVE!!
