For free family fun join us at the 10th annual EastMont Tomato Festival Saturday from 10-3 p.m., at The Meadowbrook Center in Shawsville.

The free festival features contests for the tomato art and recipe, as well as competitions for Biggest, Ugliest and Best-Tasting tomato. You can also don your best tomato-themed outfit to compete in the ever-popular Tomato Pageant, and belly up to become the Tomato-Eating champion.

In addition, the festival features:

Great food (fried green tomatoes, BLTs, pizzas, tomato sandwiches, tomato biscuits and more);

Live music by local bands

A magician and games

Arts, crafts and foods from regional artists and farmers

And of course the TomatOlympics, a series of tomato-themed challenges along our crazy obstacle course. (Just for the fun of it, kids get a chance to throw squishy tomatoes at the Human Tomato Target.)

This year’s festival is being presented by Red Sun Farms, a leader in the true greenhouse vegetable industry, owning and operating farms in all three NAFTA countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States including nearby Dublin.

The EastMont Tomato Festival is a program of Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance the quality of life in eastern Montgomery County, Va.
