County Emergency Personnel Receive Awards

Several Montgomery County emergency personnel have been recognized for awards related to their dedication and service in the public sector.

“We are very proud of all of our first responders throughout Montgomery County,” said Craig Meadows, County Administrator. “The awards these individuals received are a testament to their dedication and service to our citizens.”

Two of the 11 awards given annually by the Western Virginia Emergency Medical Services (WVEMS) were given to individuals in Montgomery County.

Donna Brown, recently retired Regional 911 Authority Director, received the WVEMS Outstanding EMS Telecommunications Dispatcher award. Neal Turner, Montgomery County Emergency Services Coordinator, received a special award given to individuals for their outstanding contributions to local government, the Benny Summerlin Award.

The Near Southwest Medical Reserve Corps, which is a national network of healthcare volunteers who respond in the case of natural or man-made disasters and emergencies involving public health, selected Derek Rogers, Communications System Manager of the NRV Regional 911 Authority, as Volunteer of the Year.

Thanks to each and every man and woman who makes it their duty to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies on a daily basis. Montgomery County truly appreciates you all.
