Under their parent’s supervision, babies and toddlers can play during this informal gathering. This program is for ages 0-4 and meets in the storytime room.
Wee Play, a Library Playgroup, Wednesdays
Every Wednesday after Storytime EXCEPT the first Wednesday of the month, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Christiansburg Library. Parents and caregivers are invited to socialize while supervising an informal play group for their babies and toddlers. Ages 0-4.
Club M.O.M. (Meeting Other Munchkins), Wednesdays
Every Wednesday after Storytime, 11:15 – 12:15 p.m., Jessie Peterman Library, Floyd. This play group will meet every Wednesday there is a Storytime planned. Relatives can relax and have a cup of tea while their children play with blocks and other toys.
‘Classy Glass’ Fine Glass Art and Jewelry Exhibit, all month
All Month, at the Blacksburg Library. Kay Cook designs custom fused glass jewelry that sparks conversations and inspires the imagination. Kay has been fusing glass for over 15 years and presently studies with a master teacher in Florida. Her work can be viewed online and in galleries throughout Southwest Virginia.

All Month, at the Christiansburg Library. Found an amazing or awful phone app? Tell other teens why they should have it or avoid it at all costs. All month in the teen area.

All Month, at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library. Enjoy the paintings, ceramic tiles, assemblage masks, and sculpture of Floyd artist Kathleen Dawe. Her work is on the walls and in the cabinet. Come immerse yourself in her playful and thought-provoking pieces.
Inside the Not So Big House Book Raffle, all month
All Month, at the Blacksburg Library. Best-selling author, Sarah Susanka, teams up with architectural design writer Marc Vassallo to write about the details that can bring your home to life. The pictures and ideas are amazing with spatial tricks and practical solutions to common home-building problems.
Junior Artist Program, all month
All Month, at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library. Become a Junior Artist and earn a sketchbook! Just pick up an art card at the front desk, visit Miss Jessie’s Gallery, answer a few questions, then return your signed card to the front desk for a bookmark. Complete five cards, and you will get your very own artist sketchbook. Parental assistance is encouraged, particularly for the littlest Junior Artists!
Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center Exhibit: Ruth Lefko, all month
All Month, at the Christiansburg Library. Local artist, Ruth Lefko, will display her art for the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center.
Photography Exhibit, “Motherhood: A Crowning Achievement,” all month
All Month, at the Blacksburg Library. Laura Swift, a grammie with a giggle, is a retired labor and delivery nurse currently working as a professional documentary birth photographer in Southwest VA. Her personal project, Motherhood: A Crowning Achievement is a manifestation of her hope that moms would begin to see and understand the greatness in their achievement of motherhood.

EastMont Tomato Festival Art Contest, today-Aug. 18
Are you more of a Tomato Artist than a tomato grower. The library will have a variety of art supplies for children 12 and under to create a tomato themed piece of art. Children may create their art work at the craft table and if they want to they may fill out the entry form to enter The EastMont Tomato Festival Art Contest Sponsored by EastMont Arts Association. Her current exhibit, Motherhood: A Crowning Achievement, demonstrates her ability to move beyond the delivery room to explore other subjects to photograph. Join Laura, a grammie with a giggle, to learn what she did to become a professional photographer.

Eclipse Live, Aug. 21
11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library. On Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, NASA Television will air a multi-hour show, Eclipse Across America: Through the Eyes of NASA. Viewers around the world will be provided a wealth of images captured before, during, and after the eclipse by 11 spacecraft, at least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons, and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station – each offering a unique vantage point for the celestial event.
