Letter to the editor Virginia Tech’s new logo

 After reading the long article on the new Virginia Tech logo, I am reminded of the old joke asking, “How many (pick your group) does it take to change a light bulb?”


I am amazed at how many Assistant, Associate, Executive, Vice-Provosts and Vice-Presidents it takes to add a squiggle to the Tech Athletics Association logo and claim that they have invented something new and wonderful with powers to change the very existence of the world as we know it.

Apparently slopping up the connection between an italic “V” and “T” is supposed to have created a symbol that has the power to raise Elvis from the dead.

Reading the article tells us all why university tuition is so high these days. Someone has to pay all these second, third and fourth level “executives” and all their assistants for all those hours spent agonizing over just how to make a loopy connection between a “V” and a “T” and to be able to claim that it wasn’t the same thing the football team had been using for years, and then to write page after page of high sounding prose and poetry about how this new logo is going to inspire everyone who sees it to create heaven on earth and save the planet.

The one good thing to come out of this is the long needed elimination of the “Invent The Future” tagline, a meaningless quip that really didn’t say Virginia Tech was inventing anything beyond a cute three word line that could be copyrighted.

Let me suggest that all these overpaid executives now add a new tagline to their not so new logo: “Much Ado About Nothing.”

At least that line comes from a reputable source.
