In its third year, The Gospel Singing Festival on Main Street will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 5-9 p.m.
About a thousand people have attended the event in previous years said singer Dale Buckner, a Christiansburg native, who has organized the event each year.
“ It rained one year and everybody crowded onto the porch of the Old Town Barber & Hair Salon to sing, and last year, we held it in August and it was a scorcher! So, we moved it to October,” said Buckner.
The festival has had different singers every year. This year, The Vintage Quartet is coming from North Carolina and Christiansburg’s The Kipps Family will join Mr. Buckner.
“I’ve been singing since I was 5. My Dad is a minister and he’d stand me up holding a song book. I was too little to read, but I sang.”
At 51, Buckner used to travel and sing, now stays home singing part time with a local group, singing solo, and continuing to organize the song festival.
There’ll be three food trucks for the event.
“Bring lawn chairs and come enjoy the music,” Buckner said.
