Downtown Blacksburg event raise breast cancer awareness, funds

Kent Jewelers and Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. announce the 9th Annual Pretty in Pink fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness on Wednesday, October 19 from 10am- 8pm.


All day, participating downtown merchants will be donating a percent of their proceeds for the day to support the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. Participating businesses, identified by a pink ribbon, are Fringe Benefit, Matrix Gallery, Sundee Best, Main Street Inn, t.r. collection, Gillie’s, Bollo’s, Cafe de Bangok, and Mellow Mushroom.

Numerous activities and amusements will be held. ‘Pink Cupcakes with Gemstones’, sponsored by Next Door Bake Shop & Kent Jewelers, offers a chance to win a diamond.

In the evening, the Pretty in Pink Happy Hour will run from 5:30pm-8pm in the Kent Square Atrium featuring pink drinks by Cabo Fish Taco and music by Dynamic Sound DJ Earl Brown will enliven the Pink Reception.

The Pink Reception will be held in partnership with Pointe West Management and The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event.

During the Pink Happy Hour, a gift basket silent auction will take place, with bidding closing at 7:30pm

Local businesses donating to the gift basket auction include Blacksburg Fit Body Boot Camp, Bookholders, Brownstone Barbershop, Cafe de Bangkok, Domino’s Pizza, Downtown Blacksburg Inc., Eucalyptus Massage Therapy , Fringe Benefit, Gourmet Pantry, In Balance Yoga, Main Street Pharmacy, Matrix Gallery, Moss Arts Center, Nest Realty, Ozmo, Positive Radio-ESPN 2, Real Life Dental, Sideline Orthopedics, t.r. collection, The Lyric Theatre, The Mountain 101.5/102.5, and Union Bank

The VBCF is the only statewide non-profit 501c3 organization committed solely to the eradication of breast cancer through education of and advocacy for Virginians.

Each year, VBCF provides thousands of individuals at the community level with accurate, up-to-date information on breast cancer early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research, legislation, and survivorship.

VBCF seeks to make ending breast cancer a state and national priority, to advocate for the collective needs of people affected by breast cancer, and to educate all Virginians on the facts about breast cancer.
