Sportswriters might have trouble spelling their last name, but for two sisters on the Christiansburg volleyball team, it’s just another day at the office.
The Blue Demons entered region play on Monday against a tough Hidden Valley team and have earned all 12 of their wins this season with a little spunk.
Nicole and Meredith Diloria have been a part of the successful season. The sisters, who are twins, have been there for both their teammates and each other.
They both say having a second half of the family on the court has been fun, but Meredith adds that it has come with some scrutiny.
“I know that I always have someone who will be honest about how I am playing and also have my back,” she said.
That sisterly bond and “twin connection” has given them that extra sense of where the other is or even what they might be ready to do.
“Nicole and I have a great sense of what were about to do. We both can read the other’s emotions really well and we both play off of what the other is about to do in a game,” Meredith said.
Of course, Nicole’s perception is very similar.
“We can read each other really well and we can kinda (sic) sense what the other person is about to do,” she said.
The two started playing sports together at a very young age with travel soccer. At that time, they both played defense, and Meredith admits that twin connection was a bonus.
“It made it very easy to read what each other was going to do. We adapted really well to each other’s movements,” Meredith said.
Neither have made a choice for college or whether they will be going their separate ways, but they do have different ideas on what they might study.
Meredith is interested in environmental studies and would like to become a lawyer. Nicole is considering the field of Natural Resources or Outdoor Recreation.
For now, they hold onto the memories of playing together.
