Abigail Wilson is Auburn High School’s all-time RBI leader and she is only a junior. She has committed to continue her playing career at Radford University.
Auburn High School has had successful softball team for the past four years, and several of the team’s players are garnering that success with offers to continue their playing career in college. Junior Abigail Wilson committed Friday to play at Radford University.
“Radford has an excellent program for my intended major (education). It’s close to home. My dad went there. I’m familiar with the area. I’ve grown up watching RU softball, and I love all of the coaches. After I was offered, there was not a doubt in my mind that that was where God wanted me,” she said.
This past year, she broke the 18-year-old school record for RBIs. She finished the season with 38 and had a .438 batting average. She had 39 hits including 12 doubles, two triples and four homeruns.
For her effort, Wilson was named to the first team 1A West softball team.
“My number one goal will always be to better myself, day by day. Whether it’s in the class room or on the softball field. I’m trying to prepare myself for the next step in life, for not only softball but my education as well,” she said.
In college, Wilson wants to be an impact player. “Someone who is needed and wanted on the team. Someone who is a leader and friend. Someone who picks others up and stays positive through the tough times. I want to compete and excel at the next level, she said.
She also plays basketball and is part of the National Honors Society and Beta Club.
Wilson is the third player from the active Auburn roster to receive an offer to continue their athletic career in college. Mackenzie Lawrence is headed to Wingate, while Skylar DeHart has received an offer to be a preferred walk-on at Virginia Tech.
