Dorothy Helen Bennett, 85, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 25, 1932 in Hinton, WV, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis H. Bennett Sr.; great-grandson, Derek Saunders; three sisters; and seven brothers.
Surviving Dorothy are her five children – sons, Lewis H. Bennett Jr. and wife Kathy of Blacksburg, Granville Ray Bennett of Flagstaff AZ; daughters, Lois Wills and husband Kenny of Christiansburg, Joan Custer of Christiansburg, Dolores Conner of Rockmart, GA. She also leaves behind her beloved 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother to them all and will be missed by each of them.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her grandson, Sean Bennett, who was her caretaker for the past few years.
Along with her family Dorothy also loved her cats, dogs, flowers, and gardens. Throughout life she was a caregiver for several families in the area whom she loved dearly.
The family received friends at Horne Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. Funeral Services were held in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at 1 p.m. with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
