The Disabled American Veteran’s J. M. Wainright Chapter 29 meets here (1620 S Franklin St.) on the second Monday of every month.

Disabled American Veteran’s J. M. Wainright Chapter 29 (1620 S Franklin St., Christiansburg encourages all disabled veterans to join them in their evening meetings on the second Monday of every month. Dinner is at 6 p.m., with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

The DAV group works to help local veterans navigate VA disability challenges many face, filing claims, emergency funds assistance, and meeting other veterans with similar realities.

“We do fundraisers and help other veterans in the community and their families who need help with transportation, for example, and filing VA claims,” Michael Jones, Treasurer of the chapter said.

The group provides rides to the VA hospital in Salem for appointments and to the Federal Building in Roanoke.

On a larger scale, the national Disabled American Veteran’s nonprofit advocates for improved healthcare and services to this population.

“We assist veterans filing VA claims. We have experience. They’re complicated,” Jones said.

Meetings are cancelled if Montgomery County schools are closed. For more information contact Commander James Naff (540) 789-2670 and

Treasurer Michael Jones (540) 818-1386.
