H2okies finish sixth
Virginia Tech put up a pair of top-10 finishes in the mile on the final day of the 2018 ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships as freshman Lane Stone and junior Michael Craddock finished eighth and ninth, respectively, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Stone took eighth in a program record setting time of 14:55.50. He broke the previous mark of 14:57.58 set by Jake Ores in 2015. In addition, his 1000 split time of 8:57.86 broke Michal Szuba’s 9:02.89 from 2015. Craddock had a time of 15:03.76 to secure the ninth spot. Both were NCAA B cuts.

Shamrock 4-miler
The Shamrock 4 Miler and Lucky Little Leprechaun Dash take place on St. Patrick’s Day. Awards for overall, age group, best Leprechaun costume and fastest team. Cool long sleeve shirts to all participants and finisher medals awarded! Wear your green! This race also earns points for the RunAbout Race Series.
The Shamrock 4 Miler and Lucky Little Leprechaun Dash take place at Blacksburg High School off of Prices Fork Road. The race is on roads and bike trails and goes through the Stroubles Mill, Hethwood and Fox Ridge neighborhoods. All participants receive a long sleeve shirt.
All finishers receive a finisher medal. Shamrock 4 Mile male and female winner each receive a gold coin. Age Group awards to top three. <13, 13-15, 16-17, 18-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51-55, 56-60, 61-69, 70+.
Awards given to the team with the most finishers and also for the fastest group (top five runners places are added together to form team score) in three categories: Business, VT affiliated group, Open (any group or club not business or VT related).
Best Costume Leprechaun wins a free pair of shoes from Blacksburg’s amazing running store, RunAbout Sports.
The cost is $24 March 6, $27 March 6 to March 16, and $30 on race day.

Historic 5K Frontier Run
The historic Smithfield Plantation is hosting a 5K Frontier Run and 1776 Adventure Run on Sunday, March 18 from 1-4 p.m. The events will be along the Virginia Tech Buford Meredith Cross Country Course adjacent to the Blacksburg attraction.
This run will take you passed historic sites that were part of the original plantation. Living history demonstrators, informational displays, and activities will be set up along the course. Step back in time and enjoy a run or brisk walk along the grounds of Historic Smithfield.
Early registration through February 28 is $20 for adults and $25 for adults after February 28. Students with a student ID are $15 and children 12 and under are $15.
