Because “everybody loves a love story,” Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. and Blacksburg’s Lyric Theatre (135 College Ave., Blacksburg) invite all to a “spectacular celebration” of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and the commoner Meghan Markle beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the Lyric Theater.

In a ringing proclamation, Mayor Leslie Hager-Smith announced the event.

“Now let it be known that the Council of the Town of Blacksburg, with the Mayor of said principality, doth make the following proclamation on the occasion of the nuptials of the American commoner Meghan Markle and His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.

Whereas The Town of Blacksburg was founded by former subjects of the British Crown in 1798;

Whereas the Town of Blacksburg is presently home to uncounted numbers of British expatriates;

Whereas a Royal Wedding gives great cause for merriment among loyal subjects of the Crown and their friends;

Whereas, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018 and all the world loves a love story.

Now, Therefore, I, Leslie Hager- Smith, Mayor of the Town of Blacksburg do hereby proclaim that the 19th day of May in the year of Two Thousand and Eighteen be declared a Day of Public Celebration in Downtown Blacksburg and extend on behalf of Blacksburg Town Council, a warm invitation to the citizens of the entire realm to join Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. in the historic Lyric Theatre to mark the momentous occasion of the Royal Wedding Ceremony.”

Huzzah!
