She began her extraordinary life on March 10, 1927 on Fletcher’s Mountain and peacefully concluded her earthly journey on April 26, 2018.

Ninety-one years – an amazing lifetime of accomplishments, activities, and adventures. No list is sufficient – or long enough – to memorialize the life well-lived of a daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Phyllis Fletcher Miller’s greatest gift – her greatest legacy – was her capacity to love.

She never stopped loving those she lost. Within her was an indomitable love for her husband, John Bill. She was his Jeannie; he, her Johnny. She also had deep love for her parents, James and Hazel Fletcher; her siblings, Wally, Carmen, and Norman; and her nephew, Jackie.

She freely shared her love with her extended family – teaching us how to love – not through words but through works. It mattered not how she acquired her extended family – through birth or through marriage. She simply loved each of us for who we are, and we are each ripples of the love she radiated.

She was deeply loved by her children, Annie and Gene Seago, Cathy Hoots, and Dean and Leketa Miller.

She was the proud Nana of John Seago, Jay and Erin Seago, Alice Seago McClure, Diana and Kyle Harris, Christopher and Kristyn Whitaker, David and Megan Whitaker, Corey Miller, Cole Miller, and Caleb Tilley.

Her great-grandchildren, Wiley Seago, Sullie Seago, and Elliott Grace Whitaker were special blessings in her life.

A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 7:00 pm at Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 133, Newport, VA 24128 or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
