Cole Beck swept both the 100 and 200-meter events on the final day of the 4A state meet, but his Blacksburg High School teammates struggled after winning the Class 4 West regional titles.

The Bruin boys finished tied for third (48 points) with Woodgrove behind Loudoun Valley (100) and Loudoun County (49).

Beck was clocked at 10.44 in the 100 and 21.53 in the 200.

Blacksburg teammate and Virginia Tech-bound Noah Ramsey finished third in the 100. Ramsey along with Micah Lester, Karim Mohamed and Nick Czar picked up first in the 4X100 relay.

Solomon Ghosh also gave the Bruins a top spot in the discus with a throw of 171-3.

The girls team fought the weather and new faces to finish 13th with 16 points. E.C. Glass took team honors with 57.5 points, followed by Deep Creek with 54 and Loudoun Valley with 50.

Ailene Edwards crossed the 3,200 line in third.

Christiansburg finished third with 52 points in the girls’ 3A competition as Julia Moschella finished second in the 800-meter run. Kendal Lewis and Kaylyn Cromer were 6-7 in the 100-meter hurdles. Christiansburg’s Maddie Wright finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Christiansburg 4X100 relay team also took third place and the 4X400 relay finished second. Hannah Allen was third in the high jump, while Rachel Lloyd claimed the state 3A pole vault event.

The Christiansburg boys finished in 17th place as Broadway and Lakeland claimed the top honors.
