Beautiful Pipestem Resort State Park hosted the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour on July 16, the last tournament before the season ending tour championship.
Here is a summary of the results.
16-18 Age Group Par 72 6226 yards
Carson Proffitt of Camp Creek, West Virginia, made 10 birdies on the way to a blistering score of 64. The score is thought to be the lowest in the 20 season history of the tour. Proffitt, a rising senior at Pikeview High School made the turn in 4 under 32 and continued the torrid pace on the second nine capturing six more birdies including four in a row from holes 13-17. Only a double bogey on the last hole cast any hint of a shadow on the stellar round. Hunter Bowers of Galax, VA shot 2 under par 70 to finish second. Patrick Smith of Beckley, WV and Michael Growe, Jr. of Pineville, WV tied for third with scores one under par 71.
14-15 Age Group Par 72 5847 yards
Daniel Goode of Wytheville made eight birdies on his way to a score of 5 under par 65. The rising sophomore at George Wythe High School won for the third this season. Caleigh Street of Jewel Ridge shot an even par 72 to finish second, and Seth Walker of Christiansburg shot 79 to finish third.
12-13 Age Group Par 72 5847 yards
Tanner Vest of Shady Springs, WV played in his very first Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour event and won the age group with a score of 81. Samantha Skinner of Blacksburg continued her good play finishing second with a score of 82. Benson Blevins of Wytheville shot 83 and finished third, while Graham Minarik of Radford was a stroke back in fourth with an 84.
10-12 Age Group Par 36 2517
Grant McCall of Richlands shot a 38 to win the age group for the second consecutive week. Jack Skinner of Blacksburg shot 40 to finish second, and David Goode of Wytheville shot 42 and finished third.
9 and Under Age Group Par 36 1954 yards
Hudson Hurt of Radford shot a 50 to win the age group. Blaine Morgan of Bluefield, West Va. shot a 54 and finished second. Nolan Hurt of Radford shot 58 and finished third.
The Tour concludes next week with the two-day Tour Championship at Auburn Hills Golf Club in Riner.
