Harriet Hawkins Miller, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away on Sept. 24, 2017, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Miller was raised in Blacksburg, Virginia, and was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech. She was the daughter of Edgar Lee Hawkins, Jr., and Estelle Price Hawkins.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Glenn P. Miller, Sr., her brother, Edgar Lee Hawkins III, and his wife, Kay Sloan Hawkins, and their children Andrea, Brittany and Edgar; and children, and their families: Dr. Glenn P. Miller, Jr., his wife Martha, and their children Michael, Lorelei, Luke, and Kyle; William Miller and his son Ethan; and Katharine Miller Lee and her husband Jay, their children Charlotte, Jason, Chloe, John, Katarina, Cassidy, David, Ginny, Christopher, and Jared, and four great-grandchildren, Chase, Carson, Layla and Ava.

“Miss Harriet,” as she was affectionately known, had true love and unwavering support from her husband, Glenn. They could often be found at karaoke events around the DC Metro area on Friday and Saturday evenings. Miss Harriet was an active member of the Centreville Moose Lodge and a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Owego, New York.

Miss Harriet is remembered as an energetic, loving, enthusiastic wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend to the many whose lives she touched. She dedicated much of her energy during her lifetime to raising her children and grandchildren, teaching them to embrace differences and family in an all-inclusive way. She fiercely loved her family and friends.

A graveside gathering is planned for Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 10 a.m., at the Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg, Virginia.
