In straw hats and Hawaiian shirts, more than 200 people enjoyed cheeseburgers in paradise, Warm Hearth Foundation’s annual island-themed fundraising event.
The sixth annual event raised around $29,000 to fund the foundation’s Neighbors in Need efforts.
“The proceeds support seniors who need help with housing and healthcare,” Susan Bixler, marketing coordinator for Warm Hearth said.
Local band, The Panjammers, set the evening’s tone as Heathwood Market, Holiday Inn Christiansburg, and Cinebowl and Grill contributed cheeseburger dinners, competing for best burger.
Sharen Hillison, a Warm Hearth Village resident, said there was a good variety of burgers and sides for the Cheeseburger Throw Down. She voted for Hethwood Market’s Secret Recipe Medley Burgers. “I liked the unusual mixture of beef and sausage. It was done just right, “ she said.
“The winner was Heathwood Market,” an enthusiastic Bixler said. “They won a trophy and bragging rights…. Until next year!”
