Financial advisor offers free informative event at Radford Public Library

Today

Financial Advisor Onassis Burress of Edward Jones will answer your social security questions from 10-11 a.m. today at the Radford Public Library (30 W. Main Street, Radford).

Learn when you should start taking benefits and how Social Security will fit into your retirement income plan. This event is FREE and open to the public. Refreshments provided.

Grow & Gather for Radford Bobcat Backpacks Dining with a Purpose

Sept. 6

Radford’s HazelBea hosts the second of four Grow & Gather events, cocktails and mingling at 7 p.m., a dinner involving a four-course wine dinner “sourced from in and around the New River Valley, Appalachian mountains, and Carolina Coasts” at 7:30 p.m.

“Local farmers and the creators of Radford Bobcat Backpacks accompany the meal with information on their organizations + food philosophy and history between courses,” the announcement said.

All of the proceeds will benefit Radford Bobcat Backpacks, a program that serves over 130 food-insecure Radford City children every weekend throughout the school year and all summer long. More information here: hazelbeacatering.com.

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club’s last monthly Fish Fry for 2018

Sept. 8

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its last fish fry of the year from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter (1543 Mount Tabor Road, Blacksburg).

There is all-you-can-eat fish, fries and slaw, homemade desserts, and beverages. Adults-$8, children under 12-$4. Kids three and under eat free. Carryout plates are $8.

The local band Simple Gifts of the Blue Ridge will be playing. The event is held rain or shine under the picnic shelter in the lower church parking lot.

We’ll start our sausage-gravy and biscuit breakfasts in October, after we make apple butter. Volunteers always appreciated.
