Ruth Elizabeth Barker Roop, 78, of Pilot, VA, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mary Ella Barker of Blacksburg, VA, and her daughter Catherine Denise Roop of Pilot, VA.
Ruth is fondly remembered as being a gentle, loving, and giving person, who loved her Lord, her family, and her church. She was a member of the Lighthouse Family Ministry Church and was very active in the Linus Project; a volunteer program, which provides handmade blankets to children to comfort them during a hospital stay.
Ruth was an amazing seamstress and quilter. Many have received her beautiful quilts as gifts, as well as her beautiful tablecloths and blankets. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph Roop of Pilot; two sons, Donald and James Roop of Pilot; daughter, Melissa Thompson and husband, Mike of Yoakum, TX; two grandsons, Joseph and Isaiah Herrera of Yoakum, TX; three brothers, Jimmy, Marvin, and Ron Barker; sister, Carolyn Agnew; along with several in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buford Linkous officiating. Entombment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home.
