Linda Lynes Burnsed, born in 1944, passed away at her home on Oct. 1, 2018. Born in Florence, South Carolina, Linda grew up in Savannah, GA where she was the youngest daughter of the late Zenas A. Lynes and Mattie Mae Lynes Jordan. She was preceded in death by her sister, Zenas Lynes Maxwell. Linda is survived by Vernon, Myles, Jennifer and Claire Burnsed.

For thirty-nine years Linda was the paralegal for the Town of Blacksburg where she enjoyed working with different mayors, town managers, attorneys, town council members, and the wonderful town employees that serve Blacksburg. She was a founding board member of the Virginia Municipal Paralegals Association and served that organization in various leadership roles throughout her career.

Although Linda was a very successful professional, she was first and foremost a doting mother and a loving wife. She was a modest and unassuming person, but she was also very proud of her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. It was difficult for her not to boast about Myles and Jennifer, and she thought Claire was the smartest two-year old on the planet. Linda was also very supportive of her husband’s career from graduate school through retirement. She was the best proofreader/editor ever.

Linda enjoyed watching professional baseball, college football, and ACC basketball. She was also a big fan of the Miami Hurricanes, which was rather awkward for someone working and living in Blacksburg. Linda was also the source of her family’s natural golf swing and was in many ways responsible for her loved ones’ obsession with golf. In her youth she enjoyed driving her MGB in sports car road rally events, and sailing on Biscayne Bay. One of her few regrets in life was that Blacksburg was not at the beach.

Her family expresses a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors of the ICU at Lewis Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital, and to Donna Boone-Caldwell and Vicki Hauser for their loving support over the last year. A private celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Oct. 7 at the Blacksburg Country Club. In lieu of flowers please give a loved one a hug for Linda and consider a donation to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
