John W. “Jack” Shanklin, 95, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at his home in Dry Valley. Born on Feb. 20, 1923, he was a member of the greatest generation serving with the 8th Air Force in England WWII and was a retired Christiansburg postmaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Shanklin; his wife of 69 years, Steel Gray Shanklin; daughter, Jacque Sue Shanklin; grandson, Jon Allen Shanklin; and many brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his son, John Robert Shanklin; granddaughter, Courtney Elizabeth Shanklin; granddaughter-in-law, Angeline M. Shanklin; nieces, Tinkie Laymon and Diane Pryor; nephew, Scott Roop; and numerous other family members and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dania Black, Sandy Smith and Betty Graham for the love and care they gave to John and Steel Gray.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Webster officiating. Interment followed in the West View Cemetery in Radford.
