Meet the Artist: Machiko Oshima Turner

Wednesday, November 7, 7:00 – 7:30 PM at the Blacksburg Library

Join us for a meet and greet with the artist of the month! Machiko Oshima Turner was born in Tokyo. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kyushu Sangyo University studying art design and textile dying. Hear more about her process and see more examples of her work during this session.

Attorney Jaime Rebkovich will discuss the different documents involved in estate planning, including Advanced Medical Directives, Power of Attorney, and wills. Isabel Berney and Philip Olson of the Funeral Consumer Alliance will be here to talk about choices available at end of life. What to do with the body that honors the deceased and gives comfort to the survivors.

 

Community Quilting Day

Sunday, November 11, 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Blacksburg Library

Join fellow quilt enthusiasts while working on your own quilting project!  Members of the Blacksburg Quilting Party will share information about their group and their knowledge in this casual setting. Meet other quilters, learning new things, and sharing experiences!

 

Wild Garden Club: Wild Herbs Workshop

Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library, Ed and Maya Skopal are offering a free introductory class in the use and preparation of some local wild herbs.  Ed and Maya own I-Tal Acres here in Floyd and grow their own herbs to make wonderful tinctures and salves.  They have an amazing knowledge of local plants, not just how to use them but how these plants live, grow and interact in our web of life right in our own backyards.  Their presentation will be followed by questions and answers and an optional pot-luck.  Bring all your picnic needs (plates, utensils etc.) and a big tasty pot luck dish to share with lots of hungry folks.
