Last year’s tree lighting was dazzling. This year, postponed by snow, Christiansburg festivities and parade will be held Monday, Dec. 17.

The events were originally scheduled to occur on Friday, Dec. 14, but have been postponed due to potential inclement weather on Friday.

From 4-8 p.m. on Dec. 17, Christiansburg Farmers’ Market vendors, local crafters and food vendors will be set up in Old Town Mall and along Hickok Street. At 6:45 p.m., a tree lighting ceremony will take place in Town Square, with a special surprise this year.

This year’s parade theme is “Santa’s Team Makes Christmas Dreams.” The parade begins at 7 p.m. along Main Street.

Please note that Hickok Street will be closed at 10 a.m., and there will be no parking on Main Street after noon on Monday, Dec. 17.

Please see below for a complete list of streets and intersections affected by the parade:

  • The length of Main Street between Park Street and Radford Road will be closed to traffic during the parade.

The staging area will also include:

  • Roanoke Street from Main Street to First Street.
  • Pepper Street from First Street to Hill Street.
  • The municipal parking lot in front of Town Hall.
  • The parking lot between Pepper Street and Roanoke Street behind the Courthouse.

These intersections will be closed to through traffic at 5:30 p.m.:

  • Main Street (between Park Street and Franklin Street)
  • Colhoun Street & Main Street
  • Montague Street & Main Street

  • First Street & Phlegar Street
  • First Street & Chrisman Street
  • Main Street & Chrisman Street
  • Depot Street & Radford Road (right lane closed on Depot Street)
  • Main Street & Park Street

The parade will end at the intersection of Main St and Phlegar Street. Floats may continue to the rear parking lot of the old Christiansburg Middle School, off Depot Street.
