Gary Austin Young, 85, of Radford, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018. Born on July 23, 1933, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Radford and a U. S. Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.


Gary retired from Inland Motors after 29 years of service as a design and applications engineer during which time he was a key partner with NASA during the space innovation and growth years during the 70’s and 80’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Eva Young.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Martha S. Young of Radford; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Brad Angell of Radford, and Meg and Dean Keener of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Julia and Kyle Keener; and many loved ones and friends.

Gary was devoted to his family and treasured friendships, old and new. He was an avid hunter who loved his Brittany’s. He also loved sports (baseball and basketball) as well as reading and telling his many stories.

The family received friends on Dec. 17, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church in Radford. Memorial services were held with Pastor Don Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Central UMC Choir Fund.
