I am writing my opinion on the 2018 Tax Reform Bill in hopes that the realization of the failed Trump/Republican administration will alert folks in southwest Virginia of the harm to senior citizens and others.

I am 71 years old and living on a fixed income.  I just completed my taxes and was overwhelmed by the increase.  The elimination amounts of tax deductions and exemptions have resulted in 65 percent increase of my taxes.  I am sure there are other seniors in southwest Virginia who will experience the same increase.  Sure you hear about just change your tax status, but the realization is that this increase is a burden to seniors.

I can ask the question, what benefit(s) of the 65% will help me?  Answer is: nothing except to increase benefits to the wealthy.  This is unacceptable.  Why do the senior citizens, those on fixed incomes, and others who live paycheck to paycheck sacrifice to fill the bank accounts of the wealthy in America?

My Republican representative, Griffin, votes for the Republican agenda, which does nothing to help senior citizens, those on fixed incomes, and others living paycheck to paycheck in southwest Virginia.  Southwest Virginia folks need to think seriously of what the Republican agenda has done to improve their life and take action in the next election.

E.F. Powers, Christiansburg, Virginia
