Ira William Smith, Jr., 79, of Blacksburg went to be with the Lord on Friday, Mar. 22, 2019 at his home. He was born in Montgomery County, VA on June 15, 1939 to the late Ira William Smith, Sr. and Thelma Surface Smith. He was the Pastor at Mt. Mission Church for 36 years. Ira retired from Virginia Tech.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan H. Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Carl Shrader, Lisa Waldron, Janet and Steve Wood, Theresa and Mike Lawrence; grandchildren, Mark (Sydney), Rachael (Andy), Erika (Aaron), Cody, Serena (Eric), Jackelyn (Travis), Katie; five great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Olivia, Blake, Tristan, Connor; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and J.R. Price; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Gloria Smith, Doug and Ozina Smith, Carson and Kim Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; church family and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Mar. 25, 2019 at Mt. Mission Church with Pastor Michael Lawrence and Daniel Meadows officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family received friends Monday prior to the service at Mt. Mission Church, Blacksburg.
