Dr. Robert (Bob) Frederick Steffen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Survivors include his partner of 40 years, Gay Meredith; sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Terry Steffen of New York, and Patrick and Monica Steffen of Utah; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and John Sermon of Utah, and Kelly and Rick Farthing of Virginia; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 nephews, all from San Francisco.
Born on Dec. 8, 1934, Bob was a veteran of the United States Marines. He graduated from Syracuse University with a PHD and retired from Virginia Tech with 25 years of service.
He was a man with varied interests and hobbies: among them were photography, short-wave radio, weather spotting, wildlife rescue, bird watching, boating and reading.
He was an accomplished electrician and a computer guru, yet also enjoyed yoga and meditation.
