March Madness over for another year

I was sorry to see the Division I college basketball championship end Monday night, but it was nice to see Virginia win in overtime for the second time in the tournament. You can’t beat the ACC. The Hokies also had a great year. Still it was sad to see the end of March Madness.

March Madness is something special. It is the most exciting three weeks of the year, from 68 teams to one. The three weeks of March Madness is far more exciting than the one day for the Super Bowl, or other sporting events.

The thing that makes March Madness special is the wagering. It is estimated that 47 million dollars were invested by sports fans in this year’s event. Wagering goes from small amounts to larger figures.

Enthusiasts put their heart and soul into picking the right teams. Well, they think they are until the madness starts. I spent at least three hours picking my teams, which I felt were all winners. If for some unbelievable reason you pick some teams that don’t win the first round, there is always the second and third round. March Madness challenges you, week after week.

The amazing thing is that you end up picking teams that you have never heard of, and don’t know where the schools are – Gonzaga being an example. I have been picking Gonzaga for three years and I still don’t know where the school is located, I think it’s California.

One thing good about picking teams anyone can get involved, at times the less you know the better you do. Anyway I’m going to miss staying up until the middle of the night watching my Cinderella teams. Who needs sleep when you have an opportunity to be involved in March Madness.

Wait until next year.
