A senior student-athlete from Auburn High School has announced plans to play two sports next season at Hollins University in Roanoke. Brianna Lohrmann will suit up in both basketball and soccer.

Auburn High School’s Brianna Lohrmann shoots a free throw.

“I chose Hollins because once I stepped on campus I felt like I was at home. When I met with the coach and the team, I felt as if I were already a part of the family. It is definitely a perfect fit for me,” she said Wednesday.

In basketball this past season for Auburn, Lohrmann received the top rebounder award with a total of 132 rebounds. She transferred to Auburn this season from Hidden Valley High School.

The idea of playing two sports in college intrigued her.

“I decided to play two sports because I’ve always had dedication to both of them. I work hard on the court and field to be the best I can be. I’ve always been told by my coaches my goals were unrealistic, so this is my way of proving them wrong,” she said.

Her goal on the athletic court and field is to become a better player and person.

“Sports don’t only make you a better athlete, they shape who you will become in the future, and I’ve always believed that,” she said.

Hollins currently has an enrollment of 800 undergraduate and graduate students. As Virginia’s first chartered women’s college, undergraduate programs are still all women, although graduate programs accept men.

The school competes on the NCAA Div. III level in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Lohrmann plans to major in psychology and become a licensed professional counselor, specializing in trauma therapy.
