Hannah Jirsa, a student at Blacksburg High School, who will attend Virginia Tech to pursue a degree in Microbiology, receives a $1,000 scholarship from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford from RSVP Coordinator Mandy Hayes, at left, and volunteer Bev Bridges, at right.

Each year, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County and Radford awards two $1,000 scholarships to outstanding students in the Montgomery County and Radford school systems who plan to pursue studies in a human services or human medical field. The RSVP Advisory Council Scholarship Committee recently met and reviewed 12 applications for this year’s scholarship awards. They selected Haley Davie, a student from Radford High School who will attend the University of Virginia to pursue studies in Human Biology, and Hannah Jirsa, a student at Blacksburg High School who will attend Virginia Tech to pursue a degree in Microbiology.

RSVP leaders issued a special thank you to Rosemary Jones for attending the awards ceremony at Radford High School on May 16, Bev Bridges for attending the awards ceremony at Blacksburg High School on May 22, and to the committee members who carefully reviewed the applications this year.
